The world of telecommunication services is abuzz with the news that Boost Mobile, a prepaid wireless company owned by Sprint, is available for acquisition. A competitor located in South Florida has officially announced their interest in Boost Mobile’s acquisition.

According to a recent article by Fierce Wireless, Q Link Wireless has expressed interest in purchasing Boost Mobile. Q Link Wireless is a South Florida-based telecommunications company and is the third-largest Lifeline carrier. Merging Boost Mobile’s large wireless reach — approximately 7 million to 8 million subscribers – would assist Q Link’s mission to serve less populated areas in America.

Q Link Wireless’ Chief Executive Officer, Issa Asad, says this about the possible merger: “We feel we’re the right fit with Boost.”

Asad began Q Link Wireless in 2011, recognizing a need for prepaid wireless services in less populated areas. Q Link Wireless has grown to serve two million people throughout 30 states.

Unlike other companies, Q Link Wireless completely markets its telecommunication services online. Following Asad’s original mission of “going where the competitors weren’t,” has proved successful as Q Link Wireless serves 67% of less populated areas throughout America.

“Less populated areas are often left out when wireless service is being distributed, so these residents are sorely underserved,” explained Asad.

However, just why is Sprint dropping Boost Mobile? They have agreed to this decision in a new merger with T-Mobile. This $26 billion partnership with T-Mobile USA has already begun. So to prevent any concerns with the telecommunications industry, Sprint will separate from its lower cost, prepaid wireless carrier, Boost Mobile. Sprint will continue to operate Virgin Mobile and Assurance Wireless.

Reports released last Friday noted that the Department of Justice are likely approve the partnership between T-Mobile and Sprint. Ajit Pai, the FCC Chairman, announced he would support the merger as long as specific requirements were satisfied, including expanding 5G service to rural areas. Reports also state that the DOJ staff were concerned about lowering the US’s telecom industry from three to four.

According to Asad, Q Link Wireless can compete with T-Mobile’s MetroPCS, which is Boost’s most significant rival. A merger with Q Link Wireless may push Boost into the lead. Should the merger not be approved, Asad says he will continue growing his company. Currently, Q Link has 400 employers and is entirely debt-free.

Asad stated that financial backing is already lined up to acquire Boost mobile, which may cost $1.5 billion to $1.8 billion.

This merger has garnered much speculation, especially when Sprint suddenly announced it would remove Boost Mobile from its lineup. Many are wondering what will happen to Boost Mobile and its customers. Asad is unsure how many subscribers will stay with Boost mobile during this acquisition.

Currently, Boost Mobile does not cover many areas of the Midwest, Mountain West, Southwest, and Northwest, so Asad will have many areas to expand telecom services and grow Q Link Wireless.

If you have a cell phone in the United States, then the chances are that you are a customer of one of the Big Four: AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon. The huge telecommunication conglomerates dominate the cell phone and wireless data markets with almost 95% of the market. With this large a share, are they really incentivized to give their customers excellent service at low prices?

Many growing businesses seem believe the top 4 carriers cannot, and as such have been able to nudge their way into the telecommunications market by offering low rates for calls and data to customers on a prepaid pay-as-you-go service. The Sun Sentinel, a newspaper that brings breaking news across South Florida, recently featured Q Link, a fast-growing prepaid phone service based out of Dania Beach, Florida.

The article, “$10 for unlimited calls and 1 GB of data? Rock-bottom phone rates are growing”, details some of Q Link’s plan specifics. It also explains how Issa Asad, the founder and CEO of Q Link is the leader of prepaid phone service in South Florida.

In the article, Asad identified that there was a gap in the market with customers who did not want to tie themselves up with long term contracts but instead wanted to be able to choose packages that suited their own needs. Q Link does not tie their customers up in confining contracts or offer them never-ending finance plans on expensive phones. Instead, they offer quality cell phone and data services at rock bottom prices.

Customers can pay as little as $10 a month for unlimited calls and 1 GB of data. This is a far cry from the spiraling bills you get if you are a customer of one of the Big Four, and one wonders how Q Link is able to offer such low prices.

The secret appears to be their business model, where they buy excess capacity on Sprint’s network at a low cost and then repackage and sell it to their customers. This suggests that the Big Four could do the same and offer cheaper packages to their customers who might be interested in more streamlined packages. This does not seem to be something that they are interested in, however, possibly because they are afraid that offering this type of package to their customers might cause an exodus from their lucrative high-end packages. Instead, they prefer to rely on their wall-to-wall marketing and the ignorance of their customers regarding possible alternatives.

That leaves businessmen like Asad to step in and offer those customers what they really want: excellent service at a low cost. In particular, Asad focused on lower-income households who are not able to afford the high prices of the Big Four and are entitled to free cell phone access through the Lifeline program. This has helped Q Link to build a customer base of two and a half million customers.

The challenge that innovative businessmen like Asad face is that the Big Four hold all the aces, as companies like Q Link are still dependent on them to provide the network capacity. Should Q Link try to challenge the Big Four, they could quickly see their access to excess capacity withdrawn or suddenly jumping in price, making their business unsustainable. These resellers survive at the forbearance of the Big 4 and as such try to fly under the radar as much as possible.

It if it is not already clear, the chances are that you aren’t getting the best deal from the Big Four. So, if you want to pay $10 a month for unlimited calls and 1 GB of data, then you need to escape the grip of the Big Four.

Giving your customers that much freedom, allowing them to have the latest devices and letting them switch when they want, without having to worry about penalties, was a great way to connect and also to show the customers that the company truly wants to give them the best mobile devices. “No one wants to feel arrested when asking for a new cell phone,” said Issa Asad. “T-Mobile made customers feel they don’t have to be jailed in with one phone.”

“Your City, Your Passion” – Skype

During this social media campaign, Skype allowed users to connect to people around the world, by discussing their home city and what they love about where they currently live. The campaign basically allowed users of the site to connect, to tell their story and to discuss what makes them and their local city so great. Giving people this creative freedom and ability to share their story is a great way for companies to connect with their audience. “The Skype campaign was well-accepted, and gave customers a voice,” said Issa Asad.

“Be more dog” – O2

O2 Mobile used this campaign to showcase their great sense of humor. By showing the difference between people, connecting them to animals and adding a sense of urgency to be more of a “dog person,” the company highlighted their funny side. It also forced people to look at life in a different way, and to view the company as one that works to ensure customers get what they need. Although a bit different in approach, this was a great way to show creativity and to show customers they work to provide the best services to them.

“Turn the Internet Red” – Facebook

Remember when millions of users changed their profile picture to a red equal sign to promote same sex marriage awareness and equality? While some companies may push away political campaigns, Facebook embraced it, they joined forces online and they asked their subscribers to show understanding via the use of connectivity. Although not every user reacted the same way, the company did show a united front and showed how they could connect to their users.

Social media is a great way for businesses to connect to their audience. Not all social media platforms will do this in the same way, and not all are going to elicit the same great response. In all of these great campaigns, the message was to get the customer to show unity, and to create a sense of urgency in customers.

The messages of each of these campaigns were presented in different ways. Some used humor, others used a sense of connection and belonging. But, the main message was to unite and to show that the company was willing to go out of its way for the customer, rather than to better their own needs. “The right campaign will elicit plenty of response, and each of these campaigns showed just that as they were able to connect with the masses,” said Issa Asad.

It has been around for quite some time and is part of Apples integrated computing and communication systems. The iPhone has been progressing into a thinner, more feature packed phone with each evolution and the iPhone 6 is no exception to the concept of continually moving forward through concisely controlled production and customer feedback. Apple prides itself on not just being innovative but intuitive as well. The iPhone 6 is available in two distinct models, the basic iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Both are very streamlined models, continuing with the trend of all smart phones to become thinner and lighter.

Basic iPhone 6 features.

 Starting with the display, the iPhone 6 features a crisp and comfortable to use 4.7 inch display that have 1334 x 750 resolution and a stunning 326 pixels per inch. The thin iPhone 6 is an astonishing 6.9mm thick, which is nearly a full millimeter thinner than the previous model. It uses a powerful Apple A8 processes that also uses an Apple M8 co-processor for even smoother app performance. Among its central processors it is also wired with the ability to track movement and position using an accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and barometer. The iPhone 6 also offers improved battery life over the previous generations, and the longevity is even better with the Plus model. For the cell phone photographer, the iPhone 6 has an improved 8 megapixel camera with an Isight sensor that uses larger pixels combined with a f/2.2 aperture to help you capture even more stunningly clear images than before. The photo software available on the iPhone 6 also allows for different styles of videos to be taken, including slow motion or simple blur reduction due to shaky hands.

How the basic iPhone 6 features compare to the Plus.

 The first and most noticeable feature of the iPhone 6 Plus is the screen size. In comparison to the basic iPhone 6, it is 5.5 inches in size with a crisp 1920 x 1080 resolution and 401 pixels per inch.  Apple makes good on its promise for innovation, delivering superior call quality for both models of the iPhone 6. Brief History

Cell Phones for Solders was founded back in 2004 when brother and sister team, Robbie and Brittany Berquist began the program as mere teenagers. In the past 10 years, they’ve helped over 11.3 million veterans get cell phones. At the same time, they’ve kept these mobile devices from ending up in a landfill. In 2012, the Berquists founded yet another organization, Helping Heroes Home, dedicated to helping veterans re-assimilate into society by providing them with emergency funds to breakdown communication issues they may have, fend off emotional hardships and overcome other challenges too.

Aside from providing veterans with cell phones, the charity also helps them with minutes too. They’ve provided servicemen and women with something around three million prepaid calling cards, which is roughly 210 million minutes. Again, all of this is free for these brave soldiers.

Cell Phones for Soldiers actually works a number of different ways. You can always donate funds to the philanthropy as you would for any other type of charity. They’ll then use these funds to help veterans get cell phones and the minutes they need to use them. This money also helps with operating costs too.

You can also donate your cell phone so they can then pass it on to a serviceman or woman. There are some stipulations, though, meaning, for the most part, that your phone has to be “gently used” so it will actually work well for the soldier.

If you have a cell phone, you can sell it to the charity, so long as it isn’t in bad shape. They’ll buy it from you and the phone goes to a worthy cause. Plus, you end up with a tax write-off.

The philanthropy can also be helped by enterprising individuals who are willing to set up their own drop-off sites to pick up phones for a limited time before sending them onto the charity.

Cell Phone Thefts: How You Can Protect Yourself

Even when we need to wait a day or two to have our mobile device fixed or replaced, it can seem like an eternity. Unfortunately, plenty of people out there want your phone too and are willing to break the law and resort to pretty despicable means in order to get it.

Write Down the Number of Your Device

Do this right now before you forget. You never know when a potential theft will happen and having the number written down can make a big difference should it ever occur. Each phone has it in a different area. On an iPhone, you’ll find it in small print on the back. Look up where to find your particular version and then keep a copy of it somewhere safe.

If someone ever steals your phone, you can call your carrier and give them the number. They’ll immediately shut it down, then, so that no one can activate or otherwise use the device on a domestic network.

Always Remain Aware of Your Surroundings

One thing that makes it so easy to steal cell phones is because people regularly have their phones out in the open. Consider how much a phone is worth. $200? $300? Some cost $500 or $600. Would you take out that much cash in a public area? Probably not, right? So why do that with your cell phone?

Even though you have to use your phone from time to time, make sure you know where you are when you do it. When you text, your head is down, unaware of who is around you. This makes it very easy for someone to get a running start, grab your phone and take off before you even know what happened.

Instead, if you’re going to use your phone in public with people around, find a wall to lean up against so people can’t simply run off and keep their momentum. Use the phone in the hand closest to the wall and shield it with your other so it looks like you’re just blocking out light. This will also make the snatch and grab much harder. Lastly, look up regularly so you can see anyone getting suspiciously close.

Check Yourself Regularly

Many thieves won’t wait for you to produce your phone because they’re adept at brushing up against you and taking the device off your person. If at all possible, then, wear clothes with pockets that are hard to reach. This may mean coats with inside pockets or those with zippers on them.

If this isn’t an option, either keep a hand on your phone while you’re about and about, even though it remains in your pocket at all times. Otherwise, at least check back on it regularly, especially if you’re in cramped quarters like a subway.

Cell phone theft is, unfortunately, something that will continue happening, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to prevent it with the above tips.
